Demonstration Notice: (1) Update on July 7 Demonstration in Piazza Barberini, Rome; (2) Street Closures in Rome Related to G-8 Summit; (3) Demonstration on July 9 at Ponte Galeria

(1) Update on July 7 Demonstration in Piazza Barberini, Rome

American citizens are advised that the demonstration in Piazza Barberini on July 7 is scheduled to begin at around 1700 hours.  Organizers expect about 2,000 demonstrators, including No Globals, whose focus is the G-8 Summit.  The police will be present and there may be road closures related to the demonstration. American citizens should consider avoiding the area of the demonstration not only during the demonstration, but also starting around 1600, as demonstrators gather beforehand.   American citizens should also be alert to the movements of the demonstrators as they disperse afterwards.

(2) Street Closures in Rome related to the G-8 Summit

American citizens are advised of the following street closures around the time of the G-8 Summit:

July 8 – 10
Via Boncompagni between Via Toscana and Via Veneto will be closed to all traffic except ATAC buses from 0800 to 2200.

From 2200 to 0800, Via Boncompagni between Via Toscana and Via Veneto will be closed to all traffic, including ATAC buses.

The taxi stand on Via Boncompagni beside the Excelsior Hotel will be moved across the intersection to Via Ludovisi.

July 6-10
Except for Via Veneto, the streets around the perimeter of the Excelsior Hotel are blocked off with police and barriers.

(3) Demonstration on July 9 at Ponte Galeria

American citizens are advised of another demonstration on July 9 at 1800 hours at Ponte Galeria.  Ponte Galeria is on the highway leading out of Rome toward Fiumicino Airport.
