Champions League Final: Road Closures and General Security Information – Rome, Italy – May 26, 2009
The city of Rome is preparing for the Champions League Final, which will be played at 20:45 on Wednesday, May 27, at Olympic Stadium. The match will heavily affect traffic patterns on the north side of Rome. American citizens should maintain their personal security awareness, as the large influx of fans may increase problems with crowd control and public order.
Starting at 16:00 on May 27th the following streets in Rome will be closed to traffic:
• Lungotevere delle Armi
• Lungotevere Oberdan
• Lungotevere della Vittoria
• Piazzale Maresciallo Giardino
• Via Gomenizza
• Via Teulada
• Circonvallazione Clodia
• Piazzale Clodio (lane toward Piazzale degli Eroi)
• Via dello Staido Olimpico
• Largo Ferraris IV
• Via Paolo Boselli
• Viale Tiziano (from Piazza Apollodoro to Piazzale Cardinal Consalvi)
• Viale della XVII Olimpiade (between viale Tiziano and via Austria/Norvegia)
• Via Austria
• Via Norvegia
• Via Belgio
• Lungotevere Maresciallo Diaz (only lane toward Ponte Milvio)
The soccer game will start at 20:45 on May 27. The two meeting points for all supporters with a shuttle bus to the Stadium will be available starting at 14:30 on May 27 as follows:
1. Piazzale delle Ginestre (inside Villa Borghese) for Manchester United supporters
2. Via Cipro for Barcelona supporters.
Local police informed the U.S. Embassy that they are not expecting violence, but they are preparing for problems with crowd control. The U.S. Embassy recommends that Americans use extreme caution, use alternate routes, and avoid the areas if at all possible.
