Scheduled Demonstrations in Rome on Saturday, March 28

Please be advised that there will be a large demonstration by the COBAS (Comitato di Base) against the Italian Government's political policies on Saturday afternoon, March 28, from approximately 15:00 to 19:00. This demonstration will include university student participation. Student groups will join up with the other demonstrators in Piazza della Republicca and from there they will all march to Piazza Navona. The organizers anticipate 20,000 participants. In the past, the police have encountered violent behavior from some of the groups involved. The US Embassy strongly recommends that US citizens consider avoiding the downtown area.

There will also be a small demonstration in Largo Ecuador, near Villa Grazioli, from 15:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, March 28, in support of Tibet. The organizers are not expecting many participants but it is possible that the demonstration will attract more supporters.
